Joost - TV from the Skype Founders

January 18th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in General News

As some of you may or may not know the Founders of Skype (the revolutionary VoIP “messenger” system) that allow you to talk with high quality over the internet, and above all is “free”, have announced that they will be launching a special “revolutionary” product for the TV industry.

When Skype came around, the press was reporting how this software truely will revolutionize the telecom industry. My hunch is Joost will also. Check out the video report and first Joost Demo :

Apple iPhone Photos and Pictures

Apple iPhone

well i am officially stoked. I do not use that word lightly :)

Just announced today at the Las Vegas CES show by Mr. Steve Jobs himself. The launch of the Apple iPhone.

Here I want to have the most photos available as possible because I know more and more people want to see this thing and I cannot wait to get my hand on one. Though it won’t techincally be until June 2007. However, Apple sure knows how to create a “buzz”. So here goes, more photos:

What is all the buzz about?

So what are all of the features that were launched. Here is a bullet summary:

  • Instead of a standard keypad, the iPhone uses a patented Apple technology called “multi-touch”. It doesn’t use a stylus, has “multi-finger gestures” and claims to ignore unintended touches. Jobs compared it to two other revolutionary Apple UIs - the mouse on the Macintosh and the click wheel on the iPod.
  • 3.5 inch touchscreen with a virtual keyboard.
  • iPhone runs OS X, Apple’s standard operating system.
  • Syncs with iTunes: “iTunes is going to sync all your media to your iPhone — but also a ton of data. Contacts, calendars, photos, notes, bookmarks, email accounts…”
  • Apple’s design chops is all over the iPhone: “3.5-inch screen, highest resolution screen we’ve ever shipped, 160ppi. There’s only one button, the “home” button [...] thinner than any smartphone…”
  • 2 megapixel camera built in
  • Outstanding media features - scroll through your music, widescreen video, album art, built-in speaker…
  • Sync your iPhone with your PC or Mac (for contacts etc)
  • Standard phone features - SMS, calendar, photos, etc. With photos there is a motion sensor that rotates photos when you turn the phone.
  • Visual voicemail
  • Rich HTML emails - works with any IMAP or POP3 email service. This spells trouble for Blackberry!
  • The Safari browser runs on iPhone - “it’s the first fully-usable browser on a cellphone.” Jobs shows the NYT running in the iPhone - the actual website, not a puny WAP version.
  • Google Maps
  • Widgets that connect to Internet seamlessly (via WiFi and EDGE)
  • Free “push” IMAP email from Yahoo

In terms of phone specifications. iPhone is a quad-band GSM + EDGE phone. It has WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0.

As Steve Jobs said; “it’s the internet in your pocket for the first time ever.” He is not joking! His stock (Apple) just went up 7% while RIM (makers of Blackberry) is down over 6%. This is almost a $2 billion dollars in market cap. And Palm (makers of Treo) is down nearly 6%. Boys and girls. Get your thinking caps on. This is going to be hard to beat. Only by creating something similar with lower costs, as iPod rivals have tried.
What will the price be?

  • $499 for a 4G
  • $599 for a 8G

It will be available in June in the US on the Cingular network (I am with T-Mobile now. Looks like June I will switch), Europe in the 4th quarter, Asia in 2008.

Looks like I am ditching my Blackberry 7730 and that gadget is simply amazing for email and mobile productivity!

AdBrite InVideo and Advertising with Video

January 5th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in General News

I saw this promo yesterday about AdBrite launching a new video player “service” where you can add your video, add your own logo in the bottom right corner (like YouTube and others do) and post your video player anywhere and make money off of the ads that appear in the beginning and end of the video.

http://www.adbrite.com/mb/about_video.php
So in other words you can make money by people clicking on the ads. Whats interesting is the fact that it can be placed virally anywhere by anyone and you get the revenue if you are the person who “created” the video. Here are some features:

Features:

  • Fully customizable video player, easy-to-use, and 100% free
  • Brand your videos with your own custom logo “watermark”
  • “Split-screen” ads engage users without interrupting viewing experience
  • Sharing features promote your site when your videos get “viral”
  • Earn money from your videos, even when they’re embedded into other peoples’ Web sites

What I find even more interesting with this though is that you dont upload the videos to an AdBrite server. You “link” the .FLV file from YouTube, Revver, etc. to the AdBrite Video Player. So in essence, if I were a business savvy person, I could find the hottest video on YouTube, put it into the AdBrite video player, drive tons of traffic to it, and make money off of someone else’s video.
Now that IS interesting. ;)
