Forbes Top 400 Richest
What will pouring 40 million caffeinated drinks do for you? Place you on the Forbes Top 400 Richest list.
I saw this announcement on a news portal. Every year Forbes compiles this list of America’s and the world’s richest people. The youngest being our boy from Google. Sergey, 31 tops out at a comfortable $14 billion. Not bad for a guy who started the company in 1998. With his buddy (who is a billionaire himself).
So in any case, why the post about this?
Well, it got me thinking as I was looking through the list. The majority are obviously in the later stages of their lives being in their late 70’s, 80’s, even 90’s. So they have a few more years and all of their wealth will be left to more than likely their heirs who unless they were groomed properly by their barons will not manage the assets correctly and lose it all.
We see in the Bible how it says in Matthew 6:24:
“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”
Truth is when you have money you either want more or don’t seem to be 100% fulfilled. It is an interesting dilema. I see myself as an entrepreneur when cash flow gets tight as I work to build my businesses, I rely so much on my faith that God will provide and help financially. He always seems to find a way.
I am not in the shoes of these billionaires and I wonder how much they rely on God once they appear to have gained so much wealth? Do you still rely on God when you don’t ‘need’ anything from anyone because you have everything you want materially? Notice I used ‘want’ and not ‘need’.
Speaking of wealth and God, I found the article in Time (the cover story) to be really interesting. It speaks about, “Does God Want You To Be Rich”. On the cover there is photo of a Rolls Royce and a gold cross as the hood ornament.
I know many in the Word of Faith movement may contradict me, but I dont believe God wants us to be ‘rich’. He wants us to be faithful. He wants us to love Him and need Him, because He needs us.
So when the world highlights the wealthiest people. It would be great to see how many on this list realize that it is God who is in control of everything and when you pass away and stand in front of the throne of God. Will He care you were selected on Forbes list?
