I hate the Department of Homeland Security

September 22nd, 2005 | 2 Comments | Posted in Web 2.0

hopefully I wont have the FBI track this entry and think I am anti-american. I love America and it is a blessed country that has provided blessings for me and my family.

Today however, I went to the local immigration office or should I say the Department of Homeland Security in downtown Detroit. First of all the appointment was at 8am so we woke up at 6am and after being on the road for over 1 1/2 horus (usually should have taken 30-40 min.) we arrived at the local office. Why? well Claudia (my wife) still hasnt resolved her status as a Citizen yet here in the States, and we are trying to finalize it. She had an appointment to get her fingerprints taken to be a Naturalized Citizen.

So we didnt wait long in line, it usually takes 5-10 min. to get the fingerprints taken. I waited in the lobby watching an old video tape documentary on Ellis Island … and I waited 10 minutes, 20 minutes… I started worrying that something happened… 30 min. later, Claudia came to the lobby and of course worried I asked her, “What happened that it took you so long?”

She said that there was some guy in training that couldnt figure out how to use the digital finger print scanner (it is digital now and not with ink anymore). So his supervisor made him do it over and over until it was right. Well, first of all, if you cannot take a digital finger print scan you should NOT WORK for the govermnent! Also, since it takes so long for all of these processes in the government immigration services, why would you place someone that risks the livelihood of a hard working person that is anxious to become a full American Citizen?

Needless to say. It was frustrating but God willing everything will work out.

Humans versus Machines…

Today I discovered this interesting illustration:

… here is an eye opener illustration, machines can do ALOT of things but they repeat the same thing over and over and over (sometimes we get in that circle) … the difference with humans is that we can do things with committment, passion, and a heart. machines cant do that. the question is, what are you?

I thought this was pretty interesting. Using Google’s Gmail as a storage drive on your computer. What a cheap way to get almost 2G’s of space.
